Be enchanted by turtles
Turtle watching and hatching is the top must do activity for visitors to Cherating, so be sure to not miss this once-in-a-lifetime experience! There are two types of turtles that can be found in this part of the world: the Green and Hawksbill turtle, and you can learn more about them at the Cherating Turtle Sanctuary.
Established in 1972, this sanctuary is located right next to Club Med Cherating Beach and offers visitors an in-depth experience from learning all about the life cycles of these turtles, their conservation efforts as well as seeing these turtles for yourself. The guides there will also explain to you how you can differentiate the different turtle species, and the difference between terrapins and turtles.
The best part is of course watching cute little baby turtles hatch from their shells as this sanctuary also serves as a turtle hatchery! Turtles are an endangered species, which is why conservation efforts are needed and their hatching and release to the sea is carefully monitored. Visitors will leave this place with a newfound appreciation for sea creatures and awareness on how to protect their wellbeing!
