Why the European Alps are a paradise for ski lovers

For hundreds of years, Alpine residents used skiing as a mode of transportation around the mountains before it became a popular sport and pastime, with the first ever ski resort opening there over a century ago. If you’re looking for a classic ski holiday complete with charming medieval villages and luxurious mountaintop chalets, you’ll find it all here.

The European Alps are known for having some of the best ski areas in the world, with beautifully-maintained pistes and extremely varied terrain. There's plenty that's suitable for beginners and intermediate skiers, as well as legendary challenges and steep slopes for those with more experience. Most ski resorts in the Alps also have ski schools with lessons to suit every skill level.

Aside from incredible ski terrain, ski resorts in the Alps are known for their stunning views, world-class dining and a unique après-ski experience. What more could you ask for?

The best time to visit

If you’re hoping to enjoy a ski or winter sports holiday in the Alps, it’s important to time your visit right. Although the ski season can start as early as November and last until the end of April, the best time for guaranteed snow in Alps tends to be February or March.

Another excellent time of year for skiing in the Alps is around Christmas and New Year, during the Singaporean and Malaysian school holidays. If you want to experience an unforgettable white Christmas in the Alps, be sure to book your flights and accommodation well in advance.

Visiting later in the ski season can be great too, though, as the days will be longer and likely sunnier, which means you'll have more time to enjoy the slopes.

French Alps

The weather can vary depending on where you choose to visit but, due to its naturally cold and dry climate, winter sports enthusiasts are generally given the best of the snow in our French Alps resorts. Slopes sit at altitudes of up to 3,000m, providing dreamlike views and thrilling challenges. In our upscale, All-inclusive resorts, immerse yourself in French Alpine culture with local wines, charcuterie and – of course – legendary après-ski entertainment.

Italian Alps

The Italian Alps are stunning year-round, offering plenty of snow for winter skiing and mild, humid summers. We’ve curated essential and special cultural experiences for you to enjoy as part of your All-Inclusive package, with traditional trattoria fare and fizzing spritzes to enjoy in our charming restaurants, and cozy, chalet-style accommodation to return to after a day of deep winter bliss.

Swiss Alps

Our Swiss resort sits in the original home of winter holidays: glorious Saint-Moritz. The glittering mountain lakes, frosted spruce trees, and 88 meandering ski runs make for a delightful winter playground for all ages. Try traditional Swiss food such as crisp potato rosti in our main restaurants, or savour the views as well as the flavours in our mountain restaurants between winding ski runs.
