Our Recommendations for the Perfect 2 Weeks in Malaysia
What to Do
Whether you are Malaysian or from elsewhere, there are so many things you can do if you are planning a 2-week trip travelling around the country. In fact, it may get overwhelming if you do your research and see all that you can do here. To make things easier for you, here’s our recommendation for the perfect 2 weeks in Malaysia , to both explore local culture, eat delicious food, as well as relax and rejuvenate.
Start with a Couple of Nights in Food Paradise Penang
For the first 3-4 days of your trip, head on over to Penang, a common foodie destination. Stuff yourself with the signature Penang char kuey teow, rojak, popiah, nasi kandar, and many other delicious yumminess that will please your palate. In between food stops, visit local attractions to burn the calories from the food and relax your mind, with examples of places to go being the Tropical Spice Garden, Kek Lo Si Temple, Suffolk House, Snake Temple, Little India, the Floating Mosque, Penang Hill, and more. It’s sure to be a hectic but enjoyable few days that is perfect to kickstart your vacation!
Educate Yourself on Malaysia’s History at Malacca
After all that hectic running around in Penang, take a bit of a breather and slow down for a few days as you learn about Malaysia’s past in the historical town of Malacca. Malacca used to be the main trading port in the region, and later on, was a main administrative area during British colonial times. Because of this, there are plenty of museums and places you can go to see for yourself how life was like in Malacca’s heyday.
Some of these places include the Sultanate Palace, the Stadthuys, A Famosa Fort, the Cheng Ho Cultural Museum, Villa Sentosa, St.Paul’s Church, and many more. If you’re up for something more lively, then be sure not to miss out on going to the Jonker Walk Night Market, the Malacca Zoo, Melaka Raya nightlife area, and the Malacca River Cruise. While in Malacca, don’t forget to sample some scrumptious Nyonya food, which originated here.
Spend a Few Days in Good Old Kuala Lumpur
No Malaysian vacation is complete without a stop at Kuala Lumpur, its capital. Fondly known as KL, you’ll find that Kuala Lumpur is a bustling but quirky city with a lot to take in and experience. The main attractions here are the Petronas Twin Towers, The KL Tower, Petaling Street, the KL Bird Park, the National Museum, and Central Market, among others. For great nightlife head on over to Bangsar and Changkat, and for a variety of cheap food options Jalan Alor, Petaling Street, and Brickfields are your best bet. This would be another hectic stop for you, but don’t worry because the next thing in your list would be to...
